This change is with the progress bar which signifies how much time is left in the video you are watching. The design change to this bar is simple yet helpful to some users. Here are the in-depth details of this design upgrade and how you can access it.
A new progress bar is rolling out to the YouTube app for Android
Previously, the progress bar on YouTube matched the app’s red theme. This also came with a grey bar that shows how far the video has buffered while the device has an internet connection. But this design change is brushing up the entire look of the YouTube progress bar. Now the progress bar at first glance comes with just the gray color and doesn’t have the buffer indicator. That remains the case until you tap on the idle video interface to see more details. Once the interface is woken up with a tap, the red progress bar and grey buffer indicator can be seen. This feature may help reduce distraction while Android users watch videos in portrait orientation. But there are some restrictions with this new design for the progress bar. For now, not everyone has access to this unique design on their YouTube app. With future upgrades, this design change will be available to more users, as it might still be in its testing phase. Once available to the global audience, a theme appearance change will ensure that users can see this new design. This can be made directly from the settings page of the YouTube app for Android devices. Only those using YouTube in dark mode will be able to see the new design. So if you are using YouTube in light mode, head over to your settings and switch to dark mode. This will enable you to see the design change on the YouTube progress bar.
