By now, we should be familiar with Google’s push in the tablet market. For years, Android has not been a good place for tablets. The tablet version of Android was just the phone version stretched out to fit a 10-in canvas. However, starting in late 2021, Google unveiled Android 12l. Since then, the company has been doing more to make Android a more tablet-friendly operating system. This came to a head when the company gave us a sneak peek at the Pixel Tablet during Google I/o earlier this year.
We get a quick glimpse of the UI for the Pixel Tablet
During the Pixel event, Google talked about its tablet and what it has to offer. It’s going to be a nifty device that actually docs on a stand to become a smart display. While the company showed off one stand, there’s a rumor that it could possibly unveil two. Also, during the event, we were able to get some glimpses of the actual UI behind the tablet. As promised by what we’ve seen so far, the interface is a lot better optimized for larger screens. Also, the big bubbly Material You buttons fit perfectly with a larger canvas. The home screen has moderately sized icons that are spaced out rather far. It may look a bit better if there were a little bit bigger, but that’s just an opinion. There’s also a lot of space between the widgets with a lot of room under the At a Glance widget. As for the Google search bar, it’s actually rather small. We see other first-party Google apps like YouTube Music, Google Home, Google photos, and more in the preview, and they all look pretty nice on the bigger canvas. The Pixel Tablet is set to launch sometime next year, but we don’t know exactly when. However, we can expect to hear more about it during Google I own next year and through numerous leaks between now and then.
