This morning Sony confirmed the launch date in a blog post, while also announcing that pre-orders would begin this month. Those who want to be among the first to try one can pre-order the headset on November 15. Just be aware that you’ll have to essentially buy a second PS5 console. Because that’s how much the headset is going to cost. At $549.99, Sony has set the price tag slightly higher than a PS5 Disc Edition. Sony will also offer a bundle that comes with Horizon Call of The Mountain for $599.99, and VR2 Sense controller charging station for $49.99. Pre-orders are initially limited to PlayStation Direct and to customers in the US, UK, Germany, Luxembourg, France, Belgium, and Netherlands.
Sony confirms PS VR2 launch date is late February
It’s still a few months away, but on February 22, 2023 consumers can officially buy the PS VR2. For $549.99 Sony is definitely pricing the headset rather high. It’s $150 more than the original PS VR was when it launched back in 2016. And it’s $150 more than the latest price of the Meta Quest 2. But considering all of its advancements, a price increase isn’t exactly surprising. It’s also a lot cheaper than the recently announced Meta Quest Pro with a price tag of $1,500. Yet it’s likely to be closer to that in terms of performance, for a much lower price. In fact, for $450 less than the Meta Quest Pro, you can pick up the PS5 and a PS VR2. Provided you can actually find a PS5. And Sony is likely hoping that price comparison will help it dominate the VR market as it did with the original headset. Sony also still plans to ramp up production of the PS5 through the holidays. With a planned goal to sell a total of 18 million consoles for the fiscal year 2023, which ends March 31 of 2023. It’s currently sold about 5.7 million since March 31 of this year (lifetime sales are at 25 million). So the company has a long way to go. But the ramp up could prove to be a good thing for the February launch date of the new headset. As more people should have the PS5 by then.
