So today, we are here to help you find out how you can turn this setting off, in YouTube. This guide will work for both iOS and Android.
What is “auto playing thumbnails” on YouTube?
A while ago, YouTube started having videos auto play when they are on your screen, before you even click on them. This is similar to what Netflix and some other streaming services do. It’s a great way to see a short preview of the video you’re about to watch, before you watch it. This feature is available on all platforms, including TV platforms. Though, it’s arguably more annoying on TVs, since it plays the audio as well. It can make it a bit harder to find something to watch.
How to turn off YouTube Auto Playing Thumbnails on Android
First off, open the YouTube app. Then tap on your profile icon in the corner. Next, you’ll want to tap on Settings.
From there, find “General” and tap on that.
Now find “Playback in feeds” and tap on that.
Here, you’ll have a few options for the playback in feeds feature:
Always onWi-Fi OnlyOff
Select the option you wish to use, then you’re all set. If you don’t want to see them autoplaying at all, then you will want to select “off”. But if you’re okay with it happening on Wi-Fi (instead of using your data when you’re not at home) then select the “Wi-Fi only” option. And that’s it. That is how easy it is to turn off the auto playing thumbnails on Android for YouTube. For those of you with an iOS device (whether that’s an iPad or an iPhone), the method is still the same. However, on iOS, the “Playback in feeds” option is at the very bottom. Other than that, the steps are all the same.
