If you’ve already got your hands on a Steam Deck and you aren’t sure how to change the keyboard theme, we’re here to help. This handy guide will walk you through all the steps, so you’ll be ready to swap the theme anytime you feel like it. Changing the keyboard theme is really quite easy but Valve doesn’t exactly put it front and center. You don’t necessarily have to dig for it though. It’s just a few menus away. That being said, if you’re like us, one of the first things you may want to do is look for the keyboard themes so you can check them out and choose the one you like best.
How many keyboard theme options does the Steam Deck have?
Right now, the Steam Deck has 5 different keyboard themes available for users. Although, one of those is exclusive to the 512GB model. While the other four are available to everyone. The themes available to everyone include the default theme, Night Shift, Candy Coded, and Steam Green. The exclusive theme for the 512GB model is called DEX-85. You can check out the exclusive theme and all four other themes in the images above.

Preview the keyboard theme
If you want to see what they look like on your Steam Deck before selecting, you can preview them on the unit by selecting show keyboard. You can also adjust the keyboard haptics here if you plan to type using the touchscreen as opposed to the d-pad/thumb sticks and ABXY buttons.
Can you get more Steam Deck keyboard themes?
At the moment it doesn’t look like you can purchase more themes for the Steam Deck keyboard. However, it’s quite likely that in time, Valve will end up adding more. When and if Valve decides to do this, you will probably be able to pick these up in the Steam Points Shop where you can buy them for a certain amount of Steam Points. As this is where you can grab other customization items like profile backgrounds, avatars, avatar borders and more. You can earn Steam Points from purchasing games, hardware, and by doing challenges and such during events that are usually happening at the same time as big Steam sales. Such as the Summer and Winter sales. And that’s all there is to it. Changing the Steam Deck’s keyboard theme is pretty quick and easy. Just remember to keep an eye out for new keyboard themes in the future as Valve may release more at some point.
