Prior to this feature release, the Galaxy Watch 4 could control Galaxy Buds that were connected to the watch itself. But not a pair that was connected to the phone that the watch was connected to. Since many users are probably more likely to keep the earbuds connected to their phone as opposed to the watch, this is a nifty new feature indeed. According to Android Police, this feature came with an update that was pushed out Monday, September 6.
The new feature for Galaxy Watch 4 requires an update to the Galaxy Buds plugin
To get access to this feature you’ll need to update your Galaxy Buds plugin. This should happen automatically when you connect the watch again. But you can always check to see if you’re on the latest version. And if the feature isn’t available, then it may just be a waiting game. For Samsung users, the update would likely go through the Galaxy Store. Once the update is complete, you should see the ability to control the buds from the watch as they’re connected to your phone. In addition, they recognize when you switch the connection of the earbuds from one device to another. For example, if they’re connected the watch directly and then you start playing something on your phone, the earbuds should connect to your phone directly. And vise versa.
This feature should work with most of the Galaxy Buds
The report from Android Police confirms that the feature works with all but the original pair of Galaxy Buds. This doesn’t mean that they don’t work with that pair. But it hasn’t been confirmed. The feature is however available for the Galaxy Buds+, the Galaxy Buds Pro, the Galaxy Buds Live, and the Galaxy Buds 2. So no matter which pair out of those four you have, you should be able to take advantage of it.
