Android 12 has started rolling out to the OnePlus 8, 8 Pro, 8T & 9R via OBT channel
Do note that the update doesn’t seem to be rolling out for European models, though. In the case of the OnePlus 8, 8 Pro, and 8T, only the Indian and North American users are getting the update, for now. OnePlus says that the “build for EU users requires additional validation steps, but it will be released as soon as possible”. In the case of the OnePlus 9R, well, things are pretty simple, as that variant didn’t even launch in North America or Europe, so it’s getting the update in India only. There are quite a few entries in the changelog, of course, this is a new major update we’re talking about after all. OnePlus optimized desktop icons with improved textures. It also fixed the issue that background applications would abnormally close in some scenarios. The issue with lens permissions when using third-party cameras has also been fixed, as has the issue that the screen didn’t want to respond when receiving notifications… in some instances.
The dark mode has been vastly improved
The dark mode in OxygenOS now supports three adjustable levels, so that you can personalize it to the max. The OnePlus Shelf has also received a boost. It now has new style options for cards. OnePlus has also added an ‘Earphone Control’ card, OnePlus Watch Card, and so much more. The ‘Shelf’ received quite a few updates as part of OxygenOS 12. The ‘Work Life Balance’ has also been improved, and so did the OnePlus Gallery app. You can now switch between different layouts in that app with a two-finger pinch gesture. The app can also recognize the best quality pictures, and more.
Canvas AOD received various improvements
If you’re a fan of the Always-On Display (AOD) display function, you’ll be glad to know that Canvas AOD has been improved. New brushes and strokes have been added, and support for color adjustment, along with some other goodies. These are only some changes that were listed in the changelog, on top of all the major Android 12 changes underneath. The update is rolling out over the air (OTA) to the OBT branch. If you’re unwilling to wait, you can install it manually too, via this link. Just make sure to download the correct version.
