True is a social media network that comes in form of an app for both major platforms
True is a social media network that is pitching itself directly as a Facebook alternative. So, it’s not an alternative to Twitter, or anything of the sort. This platform comes in the form of an app for both Android and iOS, and it does remind me of Facebook, to a degree. Before we get into it, here’s a bit of a back story. True was founded during COVID, basically. Its founder says that he was “fed up with Facebook and surveillance capitalism”. He and his team managed to raise $18 million from a “Microsoft billionaire” to kickstart the project. He refers to ‘True’ as a “private social network”. Much like on Facebook, you’re supposed to add people to your lists, and make connections with them. The focus is on that part. So if you can get some of your friends/family on it, you can get things going. He also added the following: “True is a new kind of social graph organized like a messaging platform—it’s a family-friendly home for your friends and favorite creators.”
It wants to rival Facebook, but keep your data private
What’s so different than what Facebook offers? Well, the privacy aspect should be it, though we have no way of knowing, of course. There is a ‘Privacy’ button available in the app, though, along with some added options. Cox also said that True is “focused on people you really know, we’ll never need to monetize personal information”. If that turns out to be true, it may be a more appealing option than Facebook, at least to those of you worried about privacy. The Android app looks really nice, as you can see in the gallery below. I haven’t had the chance to properly use it just yet, but aside from the initial bugs that are kind of expected, people seem to enjoy it. It does have Facebook vibes to it, based on what I’ve seen, but the good side of them. It looks simple, and minimalistic, and yet modern and inviting, as far as the design is concerned, of course. If you’d like to try it out, we’ve included a download link below, along with some promo images. True (Google Play Store)
